In Hampshire not only are the events varied but so is this county. Downland sprawls across the north, the New Forest is in the south. Petersfield is the centre of an area of outstanding natural beauty. Portsmouth, a historic naval port, is on the south coast. Southampton lies at the mouth of the Itchen and Test rivers - Southampton Water - which flows into the Solent. Winchester was once the capital of England, it is now the county town of Hampshire. Interesting footpaths and cycleways abound throughout the county that are a delight to explore.
